People and Place

Holaaa .... Welcome back to my blog.

Housing is important and has become a human need. Everyone must have a dream of their own place to live. Not just a house, but the surrounding area, and environmental factors are certainly one of the points that must be considered.

Now me and my family live in the city of East Bekasi. The reason why we stay here is because my father's workplace is near from the city of East Bekasi. In addition, the city of Bekasi is also quite developed, access to schools has been facilitated, and the city is already quite crowded. And another thing make me think to leave East Bekasi city cause, I feel that the level of racism in the city of East Bekasi is quite high. Therefore, after my siblings and I graduated from college, my family and I planned to return to my parents' hometown in Manggarai, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.

Manggarai Regency is a regency on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. The district capital is Ruteng. Its area is 7,136.4 km².
The province has a total area of 47,245.82 km2. Manggarai Regency is divided into several regions, namely Manggarai Regency, West Manggarai Regency, and East Manggarai Regency.
A main part of the economic activity in the province is subsistence agriculture. Important local crops include corn and some smallholder plantation crops such as coffee. In some places, the lontar palm (Borassus flabellifer) dominates local agricultural activities and is a very important part of the local economy.
In these areas, the lontar palm provides timber and that thing as well as food in the form of fruits, and palm sugar which is obtained by tapping the fruit stems. The sugary sap can be used to make alcoholic drinks.
In otherp  the sugar palm (Arenga pinnata) has a useful role in the local economy. The degree of mechanisation in agriculture is low. Large animals (buffaloes, horses) are widely used throughout the province.

In environmentale conditions this place is still beautiful, the air is also still fresh, besides that, many beaches, and forests that have'nt been polluted. Rarely traffic jams, little air pollution, clean water sources are also plenty, fertile soil suitable for growing lots of vegetables.
Manggarai Regency is known for its agriculture, among others: coffee, cloves, vanilla, chocolate, and many others.
One well-known culture is the Caci dance. This dance is usually performed when there will be a reception.

In Manggarai, Flores we highly uphold harmony, mutual respect between religious communities, and therefore disputes rarely occur. Most of the population of Manggarai Regency is Christian with 94.16%, which means Catholic 93.30% and Christian Protestant 0.86%. The rest is adhering to Islam 5.73%, and Hindu 0.11%. Most of the people here work as farmers, anothers are fishermen, and also ia breeder. They often consume corn as a staple food instead of rice, in the dry season. The language used by the people here is different, but almost similar. This is because, Manggarai is divided into several regions. They also have a traditional ceremony called "Hang Woja". This is a thanksgiving ceremony for the blessings given by God. This event is usually held once a year, at the end of the year.

About human migration, I think there are still not too many people migration to Manggarai city. Maybe because of some things, such as technology, and insufficient internet networks. This city is also far different from the city of East Bekasi. Even so, I think this city has developed enough in several things, especially agriculture.
